You are invited to apply to participate in a full-time, four-week, paid industry externship between June 2 and August 22, 2008, to prepare to teach courses in the Lean Manufacturing and/or Supply Chain Management Certificate programs recently approved by the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut Community Colleges for credit as part of the College of Technology's Technology Studies A.S. degree.

The externships are available through a continuing partnership between the Connecticut Community Colleges' College of Technology, its National Science Foundation funded Regional Center for Next Generation Manufacturing and the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, which obtained a High Growth Job Training Initiative Grant in Advanced Manufacturing beginning in January 2007.

The goal of the externships is to increase the CT Community Colleges' College of Technology capacity to provide instruction in lean manufacturing and supply chain management.  These externships provide educators with an understanding of current workplace practices in advanced manufacturing enabling them to implement the curriculum in manufacturing companies and college classrooms.

Seven externs from the Community Colleges were trained in these topics at Connecticut companies during the summer of 2007 and, with other content experts, developed the curriculum that was approved for credit. Three pilot programs in Introduction to Lean Manufacturing are currently underway at the Community Colleges; two of the programs are being taught by externs from the Summer 2007 program.

Download the application form and a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the externship program.  Please contact David Baty or Jill O'Hagan at Quinebaug Valley Community College, which is the Grant Partnership Coordinator for the Community Colleges with questions or simply submit an application form by e-mail to the following address: advmfggrant@qvcc.commnet.edu.
