ASEE Industry 4.0 Summit

Workforce for Industry 4.0 Summit

Overarching Objective of the Industry 4.0 Summit:

The industry and academia must develop a consensus for recommendations for changes/improvements needed in curricula, work-based experiences, policies, and practices to prepare the engineering and manufacturing workforce for Industry 4.0.

Approach:

The Corporate Member Council (CMC) of ASEE is organizing this Summit on April 25 – 26, 2022, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, Washington DC, to share thoughts and observations on the state of engineering education and engineering and technical workforce for the next decades.

Rationale for the Summit:

The emergence of Industry 4.0 in recent years has accelerated the need for rapid and quantum changes in the preparation of engineers and technical workforce for the new work environment.

Relation to Prior Effort:

This Summit will be Phase V. Mobilizing the Community for Change, as the next step of ASEE’s seminal multi-phase study Transforming Undergraduate Education in Engineering (TUEE).  Phases I – IV were funded by the National Science Foundation.

Intended Outcome:

It is hoped that this Summit will lead to the establishment of networks, consortia, and mutual interest partnerships among academic institutions and enterprises to reform engineering and technical education to meet the industry’s specific needs.
