The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Center for Next Generation Manufacturing (NCNGM) are proud supporters of the Central Community College (CCC) Summer Mechatronics Professional Development 2026 sessions, which are designed to improve educators' skills and knowledge in manufacturing and mechatronics. This initiative is significant to the NCNGM's mission as it aligns with the growing demand for skilled workers in advanced manufacturing and automation technologies.
The Summer Mechatronics Professional Development program runs four cohorts, each focusing on a specific area of the Central Community College Mechatronics curriculum. These cohorts include: Concepts of Electronics, which delves into the foundational principles of electrical circuits, components, and systems; Intro to Instrumentation, where participants learn about the tools and techniques used to measure and control physical quantities; Intro to PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), which covers the programming and application of PLCs in industrial settings; and Application of Industrial Sensors, focusing on how sensors are utilized in various automation processes to monitor and control systems effectively. Each cohort is designed to provide hands-on experience, theoretical knowledge, and practical skills that are essential for a career in mechatronics and automation.

Through these sessions, participants will not only gain insights into the latest technologies and methodologies in the field but also have the opportunity to collaborate with other educators from across the country, share best practices with Central Community College faculty and their industry partners, and engage in discussions that deepen their understanding of mechatronics as a discipline. By equipping educators with advanced skills and knowledge, Central Community College aims to enhance the quality of instruction in mechatronics programs, ultimately benefiting students and the workforce nationwide.

This program at Central Community College is also supported by the Nebraska Ethanol Board, the Development Council for Buffalo County, and South Central College in Minnesota. Other industry supporters include Rockwell Automation, BD, Mars Petcare, Klein Tools, Cargill, Distar Industries, Parker Hannifin, Tempco Electric Heater Corporation, Border States, Fluke Corporation, and Naughton Industrial Services.
